  • Coop Norge has announced that its low-cost chain, Extra, has launched the country’s first ‘unattended’ grocery store, in Bogstadveien, in Oslo.

The store serves round the clock and operates as a self-service outlet after 23.00.

Customers enter the store by verifying their credentials through the CoopKey app and BankID, a verification system used in Norway for establishing online identity.

After shopping, customers check out the goods themselves by paying in a self-service counter.

    State-Of-The-Art Technology

The store has implemented state-of-the-art technology to prevent theft and ensure the safety of customers.

Cameras in the store have been programmed to detect abnormal activities and raise an alarm. The store also has help buttons for assistance.

Coop Norge will roll out the format in other parts of the country based on the success of this outlet.

The low-cost chain performed strongly in 2018 and registered an overall growth of 7.9%.
