Sales Of Red Tuna Multiplied In Spain During 2016 Season

Sales and consumption of red tuna grew considerably in the most recent season compared to 2015, according to figures from the Observatorio de la Pesca de la Commisión Europea.

As reported by efeagro.com, this report shows that during the last few years, "trends in certain markets during the season (May-June) of Atlantic red tuna confirm an increase in local consumption."

In Andalucia sales "multiplied almost by ten times" between May and June, reaching 180 tonnes (compared to 20 tonnes last year in the same period), with a price of €7.95 per kilo (20 per cent lower than in 2015).

The Mercado Central de Abastecimiento de Barcelona (Mercabarna) doubled its sales of fresh tuna from the Mediterranean between May and June.
