Carrefour and Edeka Unveil New Distribution Centres

Carrefour has announced that its plans to establish a new distribution centre in Romania as it ramps up its logistics network across Europe, reports IGD's Supply Chain Analysis.

Construction has begun on Carrefour’s new 81,000 square metre facility in Romania, with the new centre pencilled in for completion between April and October 2016.

IGD reveals that Carrefour is keen to increase its European distribution network and recently opened a new temperature-controlled distribution centre in Spain near Madrid, specialising in refrigerated and frozen products.

Meanwhile, according to heimatzeitung.de, Edeka’s South Bavaria arm has opened a new distribution centre in Trostberg, investing €15.5 million into the new facility for fresh products.

Werner Gruber, CEO of Edeka South Bavaria, stated that by expanding the Trostberger facility they have secured the location for future challenges and at the same time increased the efficiency in delivery of high-quality food.
