Ipercoop Ascoli Named 'Greenest' Store In Italy

The Ipercoop supermarket in the Italian city of Ascoli, located in the Cittá delle Stelle shopping centre, has been recognised as the 'greenest' store in Italy, according to ItaliaFruit.net.

The title was awarded under the EU's Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS), which evaluates and reports on the environmental performance of European organisations.

Ipercoop received the certification of sustainability from EMAS for its activities to raise awareness of environmental issues, and its reduction in waste. Ipercoop Ascoli was completely renovated in March of this year, and was modernised with more environmentally-friendly features.

Sustainability Progress

The EMAS programme requires companies to promote sustainability education, as well as performance.

For example, Coop Alleanza 3.0 involves partners, customers and employees in its efforts, and every year releases an environmental declaration, which includes past results together with future aims.

In 2016, the retailer included more than 300 children and teenagers from local schools in awareness-raising projects.
