Brown-Forman Appoints Lawson Whiting As New COO

American drinks company Brown-Forman, which manufactures spirits such as Jack Daniel's and Canadian Mist, has named Lawson Whiting as its new chief operating officer, effective 1 October.

Whiting has worked for Brown-Forman for 21 years, and has served as executive vice president and chief brands and strategy officer since February 2015. Prior to this he held a number of senior positions encompassing finance, investor relations, strategy, and corporate responsibility.

In his new role, Whiting will oversee the company's regional operations, global production, and corporate responsibility functions.

“Lawson has worked across the globe and had exposure and made notable contributions to vital areas of our success, including portfolio strategy and management, annual planning & operating, capital deployment, and corporate responsibility,” said Brown-Forman CEO Paul Varga.

“He has consistently produced positive results and outcomes for the company and he is very well-prepared to take on these significant new responsibilities.”

Brown-Forman has not appointed anyone to the role of chief operating officer in five years, but says that the company utilises the position at various times, depending on its organisational structure and needs.
