Esselunga Launches 'Clicca e Vai' Pickup Service

Italian supermarket chain Esselunga has launched its first 'Clicca e Vai' ('Click and Go') pickup point for online orders in Varedo, a municipality located about 15 kilometres north of Milan.

After ordering groceries online, customers can pick them up on the same day from a convenient location on the Milan-Brianza highway. The service is free of charge and has no additional costs or minimum spending limits.

Clicca e Vai is Esselunga’s second e-commerce service, in addition to 'Esselunga a Casa', which offers home delivery of groceries.

Both services provide customers with an online assortment of approximately 13,000 items, including some 2,500 fresh products.

Strong Following

According to news agency Askanews, the 'Esselunga a Casa' service delivered 1.35 million orders to customers in 2016, achieving a total turnover of €158 million. The service currently covers 1,115 municipalities in five regions (Lombardy, Veneto, Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany and Piedmont).

To meet the demand that is likely to be generated from the new service, Esselunga has two warehouses devoted to online orders, in Milan and Florence.
