Italian production has recently shown that there are many delivery options for salad varieties. The ever decreasing prices in German trade could mean winning more market share.
Greenhouse production in middle and western Europe have also had a stronger presence in the market, despite the fact that quantities are still very limited. German production is still limited to a number of small companies, mainly in the southern region of the country, but they are more strongly represented in certain markets.
Production in the south of France has also started to feel more competition in the traditional export markets. Winter production is in its final stages in some areas and there are smaller quantities of certain varieties being brought to market. Specifically, prices for green salad varieties had to be lowered while prices for the red varieties have remained stable.
