Crown Holdings To Build New Beverage Can Plant In Valencia

Packaging company Crown Holdings has announced that it is building a new plant in Valencia, Spain, for manufacturing aluminium beverage cans.

The location of the new facility, which is approximately ten miles north of the city of Valencia, was selected based on its 'close proximity to key customers' as well as 'excellent local infrastructure and transportation links'.

The plant is expected to be operational by the fourth quarter of 2018. It will have an initial annual capacity of approximately 900 million units, producing cans in multiple sizes, and will be designed to accommodate further expansion.

Market Change

The company currently operates two steel beverage can plants in Spain, located in Agoncillo and Seville, however, it notes that that new facility is being built in response to the growing demand for aluminium cans for both beer and non-alcoholic beverages.

"We are excited about the aluminium beverage can market growth in the Iberian region," said Ziya Ozay, senior vice president of Crown Bevcan Europe and Middle East.

"Our new plant will be ideally located to supply the increasing requirements of a number of key customers and support our other facilities during the conversion from steel to aluminium."
