Food scientists have attacked French retail giant Carrefour over its food labelling policies.
The grocery experts have criticised the advice given to consumers on the labelling on diets and how often to eat various foods.
An incredible 33 medical groups, consumer bodies and nutritionists sent an open letter in the Journal International de Medecine on the topic.
They criticised the new 'once or twice a day' and 'time to time' food labelling system as scientifically unable to be defined.
Scientists, including the nutritionist Professor Serge Hercberg of medical research group Inserm, said the labels would send the wrong message to consumers.
They said the packaging labels gave the impression that it is reasonable to eat pizzas or rich desserts twice a day.
