Waitrose & Partners Sells Part Of Leckford Estate

Waitrose & Partners has announced the sale of a parcel of land belonging to its Leckford Estate farm, which provides the retailer with apples, dairy products, sparkling wine and a variety of other products.

The 1,200-acre plot of land has been sold to a private buyer for an undisclosed figure, the retailer's parent , John Lewis Partnership, announced.

The transaction includes the sale of two farm cottages and a cluster of farm buildings.

The sale will have no impact on production at Leckford Estate, Waitrose confirmed.

Property Review

“Regularly reviewing all of our property holdings is a vital part of ensuring the future strength and sustainability of the John Lewis Partnership," said Rob Collins, managing director at Waitrose & Partners.

"Following this sale, we still own 2,800 acres of land at Leckford meaning that this fantastic farm - run by a brilliant group of Partners - will continue its development, focusing on where it delivers significant strategic value to our business while also releasing important investment capital.”

Leckford Estate recently celebrated its 90th year as part of the John Lewis Partnership. It is the only farm to be owned by a UK supermarket, Waitrose & Partners said, and as well as supplying products, also boasts a number of visitor attractions, including water gardens, golf courses and fishing lakes.
