At the 2014 Consumer Goods Forum yesterday, Dick Boer, the CEO of Ahold Europe, told the European Supermarket Magazine that his primary objective is to increase penetration in the markets in which the company already operates by opening more outlets.
Ahold sells both own-label and private label-products.
He spoke also of his ambition to expand the company's online services - an aspect in which the company is "really moving fast".
Boer discussed Albert Heijn with ESM magazine, "Heijn showed that if one wants to expand, one must move outside of one's territory. He also showed that it can't be done alone - one needs a good team."
The theme of this year's forum is growth through change: Boer remarked that the global food industry must reduce and then eradicate deforestation, and that that the world's population is growing represents a business opportunity.
