Delhaize Group is to phase out its Delhaize City convenience store format. Its 15 branches in the city centres of Antwerp, Brussels and Geneva are to be converted to the convenience-oriented supermarket banner Proxy Delhaize.
The Belgian grocery retailer cited the reasons for this as a lack of flexibility as they have been company-owned and have not generated a satisfactory profit. It is reported that the stores are to stay open until independent shopkeepers are found to take over. (2 Oct)
