Did you know…Brazil may not have won the World Cup but they come out on top for recycling? Brazil is regarded as a green country in that it recycles 98 per cent of its beverage cans, making the nation the world-leader in aluminium-can recycling. Their recycling skills will be really put to the test as Novelis, the aluminium sheet producer which has huge aluminium rolling and recycling operations in Brazil, reported a 35 per cent rise in output over the four weeks of the World Cup compared to the same period last year… Did you know...Carrefour has decided to overhaul the Carrefour Discount brand by removing the Carrefour logo? When CEO Georges Plassat took over in 2012 he made it clear he wanted to disassociate the Carrefour logo from discount products, as it gives the impression it is an inferior brand. Carrefour will cease to use the Carrefour logo for its discount product range from 2015. However Carrefour Discount goods will continue to be available in Carrefour stores… Did you know... Robert Pitt, the former managing director of Tesco in the Czech Republic, has been appointed chief executive officer of Irish media group Independent News & Media (INM)? Pitt will step into the role this autumn and has an impressive retail CV; most recently he was managing director of Tesco franchise stores in the Czech Republic, prior to which he was operations director of Tesco in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. He also held senior management positions with Lidl in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Ireland for nearly ten years and helped to establish the German discounter in these three countries. INM chairman Leslie Buckley said, "The news publishing sector faces many challenges and Robert Pitt, whose extensive experience includes change-management and digital strategy, is well equipped to lead INM into the future." It seems that grocery executives are much sought after whatever the industry...
