Alcampo Purchases Goods Worth €4bn From Spanish Suppliers In 2023

Alcampo purchased goods worth €4 billion from Spanish suppliers in 2023, registering an increase of 7% compared to 2022.

The Spanish subsidiary of Auchan Retail purchased €3.5 billion worth of merchandise distributed to all Alcampo outlets, it noted.

In addition, Alcampo stores sourced goods worth €252 million from 1,150 local producers in their immediate surroundings. These suppliers mainly consisted of food SMEs, offering agricultural, livestock, or seafood products, as well as other foods typical of the area where the Alcampo store is located.

Local Sourcing

Alcampo has pledged to offer good, healthy and local products in its stores by sourcing local products and promoting them to create awareness among consumers.

The retailer has introduced a number of regional and local campaigns to highlight locally-sourced products in each area.

It offers around 312 products with Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) or Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) seals.

Moreover, Alcampo ensures that 100% of the lamb, chicken, and pork it offers originate from national sources, supporting the supply of local varieties. This not only fosters the recovery of biodiversity but also contributes to the improvement of rural livelihoods.

The company collaborates with producers of indigenous pork species, such as porco celta from Galicia, porc negre in Mallorca and white and black pork from the Canary Islands, purchasing a total of 18,000 kilograms for distribution across its hypermarket and supermarket estate.

Alcampo also works with goat farmers from Malaga and veal growers from the Canary Islands.

Elsewhere, the retail group added approximately 281 private-label products to its offering across food, drugstore, and perfumery segments in the past year, representing a 5% increase from 2022.
