Brazilian Wholesaler Assaí Opens Five New Outlets

Brazilian cash-and-carry banner Assaí Atacadista opened five new outlets in December 2016, taking its total to 107 stores across 16 states.

The new outlets were opened in four states: two in São Paulo (Praia Grande and São Vicente), as well as one each in Pará (Belém), Bahia (Paulo Afonso) and Rio Grande do Norte (São Gonçalo do Amarante).

Together, the five outlets required an investment of about BRL 200 million (€58.5 million) and added more than 77,000 square metres to Assaí's portfolio and 28,000 square metres to the sales area.

In all, Assaí opened 13 new outlets in 2016, investing a total of BRL 485 million (€142 million) and generating 3,250 jobs throughout Brazil. In 2017, the wholesaler expects to keep up strong growth with revenue above the inflation rate as well as continued expansion.

Assaí Atacadista is mainly designed for trade professionals (retailers, wholesalers, restaurants, etc.) as well as individuals who wish to buy in large quantities. It is owned by GPA (part of France’s Casino Group), the largest retailer and distribution group in Brazil.
