Internet giant Amazon has called a press conference in Seattle for June 18 with many technology experts believing the firm will launch a new smartphone on the day.
"Join Amazon's founder Jeff Bezos for our launch event," the company posted on its Twitter account.
The news is sure to raise much concern at competing tech firms Apple and Google.
A new technology product would allow Amazon to compete aggressively with the two innovative companies.
However, Amazon would have to prove to shoppers why they should choose its mobile offering over those running on iOS or Android.
Amazon previously launched its Kindle Fire which has proved very profitable for the company.
The device has allowed the Internet firm to obtain significant market share in the tablet sector.
It is expected that a new mobile phone would be powered by the version of Android used with Kindle Fire devices.
