Tesco's Central Europe Property Director Departs Role

The head of Tesco's real estate business in Central and Eastern Europe, Piotr Korek, has stepped down from his role, which raises debate about the future policy of the UK retailer's approach in the region, according to reports.

Poland's portalspozywczy.pl news portal said that Korek's responsibilities will 'now be transferred to a higher level' within Tesco, and that there will be no recruitment process to replace him in the position.

In his role of European Property Director at Tesco Central Europe, Korek held responsibility for real estate, planning, construction and management of commercial buildings across Tesco's operations in Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

He is a former vice chairman of the Tesco Polska board, as well as holding a number of property-related positions with the Polish business across a 15-year spell. Prior to joining Tesco in 2002, he was a member of the board of HIT Hipermarket Vermögungsgesellschaften in Poland for nine years.

Poland's wiadomoscihandlowe.pl portal notes that 'the departure of one of the more established managers will increase anxiety among employees about the company's future' in the CEE region.
