French Agri-Food Industry 'Unhappy' With Supermarkets

A leading agri-food representative group in France has expressed its discontent with large-scale supermarket operators.

Jean-Philippe Girard, president of l'Association nationale des industries alimentaires (Ania), believes that supermarket chains are damaging the agri-food industry through rate reductions, which it regards as disproportionate, and the implementation of “retroactive margins”.

Ania, along with 29 organisations representing the food industry, have composed an open letter denouncing retailers’ actions and decisions in this regard.

The signatories of the letter wish for the authorities to 'effect emergency measures' and to 'more fully appreciate the environment' in which they are trading.
