Coop Sweden To Build Automated Logistics Facility In Eskilstuna

Coop Sweden has announced plans to build a new automated logistics facility in the Eskilstuna logistics park.

The facility will deliver goods to all of Coop's approximately 800 stores across Sweden and will be the heart of its entire supply chain.

It will handle goods across various categories, including fresh produce, regional, and non-food items.

Magnus Johansson, CEO of Coop Sweden, said, “We see that Coop's competitiveness, going forward, will be built on speed, innovation and digitalisation.

“With a central and automated terminal, we can serve our customers better, we streamline our operations and we can further strengthen our sustainability work when more transport will [rely on] trains.”

The facility, located in a 276,000 square-metre plot, is expected to be fully operational in the second half of 2024.

Automated Technology

It will be equipped with round-the-clock automated technology for all processes, starting with receiving goods to loading for deliveries.

The new logistics centre will replace the current facilities in Bro and Västerås. However, the retailer’s cold storage in Enköping will continue to function.

The site will also have train tracks to enable the easy supply of goods to various locations.

Presently, about 35% of Coop's transports requirements are met by rail transport, which is the highest among all food companies in Sweden.
