Maxima Introduces Digital Receipts For Purchases

Lithuanian retailer Maxima has introduced digital receipts in its stores to give customers the opportunity to choose between paper or digital bills.

Digital receipts are being issued as part of the first phase of testing, which is open to Maxima mobile app users.

The digital version of the test receipt is automatically sent to the e-mail connected to the user's account and is also saved in the mobile app.

Sustainability

Maxima started the preparation of electronic receipts in 2019, in consultation with the State Revenue Service, and making changes to the existing cash register system in order to be able to gradually switch to electronic checks as well.

Liene Dupate-Ugule, communications manager of Maxima Latvija, said, "The issue of environmental sustainability is very important to us, therefore Maxima Latvija has developed a long-term strategy to reduce the impact on the environment through its activities.

"As part of this strategy, we regularly introduce new initiatives and are constantly looking for innovative solutions to take care of the environment around us, so we are convinced that digital checks are another step towards a greener future."

Digital Receipt Initiative

In relation to the digital receipt initiative, Dupate-Ugule added that the group has been working on the implementation of this solution since 2019, and the first results were already visible in 2020, when a detailed purchase history is available in the mobile app.

"The second half of this year will be a turning point for the digitisation of checks in food retail in Latvia, which we are sure will be appreciated by our customers as well," she added.

The retailer hopes that receiving an electronic check will be very convenient for customers.

Shoppers can customise the account of the group's loyalty programme "Thank you" or the "Maxima" mobile app to ensure that they receive purchase receipts only electronically, the company added.

Accordingly, when customers make a purchase and activate their "Thank you" card in the store, the cash register system will automatically adjust to the preference and a printed check will not be issued. [Pic: ©_fla/123RF.COM]
