Intermarché, Continente Open New Hypermarkets In Portugal

French retail group Les Mousquetaires has opened its first Intermarché hypermarket in the Algarve region, located in Lagos.

The store has a commercial surface of 2,500 square metres, but also includes an adjacent commercial gallery that, in total, makes a retail area of 4,000 square metres. The gallery includes a pharmacy, florist, take-away with sushi area, and a petrol station. The property also features a Fnac shop and a Burger King restaurant.

Two years ago, Intermarché announced a €200 million investment plan to open 63 stores by 2020.

Continente Expansion

Meanwhile, Portuguese retailer Sonae MC has invested €5 million to open a new Continente hypermarket in Asprela, located in the district of Porto.

The new store has a commercial area of 1,360 square metres and offers a range of products including local fresh produce.
