Lidl Announces US Store Locations, First Stores To Open In June

Lidl has announced the locations of its first 20 US outlets, with the opening process set to commence in June.

The discounter made the announcement at a launch event in New York this week, at which it promised to offer 'market-beating' prices as much as 50% lower than its competitors in the market.

The locations include the towns of Greenville, Rockingham, Sanford, Knston and Winston-Salem in North Carolina, as well as Ricmond, Hampton, Norfolk and Chesapeake in Virginia to name but a few. Two locations in South Carolina, in Spartanburg and Greenville, have also been confirmed.

The stores will be serviced from newly-opened distribution centres in North Carolina and Virginia.

The openings are expected to be followed by further store unveilings in New Jersey and Atlanta by summer 2018.

At the event, Lidl announced the launch of a comprehensive social media campaign to promote the launches, including the rollout of a new hashtag, #RethinkGrocery.

Commenting on the move, Lidl US chief executive Brendan Proctor said that the company's "strength" was ensuring that its customers get "a good quality product. They want it at a good price and they don’t want to spend all day in a store."
