Henkel Acquires Sonderhoff Group, Darex Packaging

Consumer-goods giant Henkel has closed its acquisitions of Darex Packaging Technologies and the Sonderhoff Group, which, the company says, will complement its existing adhesive-technology portfolio.

“Strengthening our portfolio through targeted acquisitions is part of our strategy,” said Henkel CEO Hans Van Bylen. “Closing both transactions will allow us to expand the position of our adhesive-technologies business as a global market and technology leader.”

New Acquisitions

Darex is a US company that supplies sealants and coatings for the metal-packaging industry, and it generated sales of €290 million in 2016. The Sonderhoff Group, based in Germany, manufactures sealing solutions and dosing equipment, and it generated sales of around €60 million in 2016.

“The Darex and Sonderhoff Group businesses will complement our existing technology portfolio in an excellent way,” said Jan-Dirk Auris, executive vice-president of adhesive technologies at Henkel.

“Both companies serve attractive markets with substantial growth opportunities, and both businesses provide customer-specific, high-impact solutions with outstanding technical expertise.”

In the 2016 fiscal year, Henkel's adhesive-technologies business unit generated sales of around €9 billion.
