Żabka Obtains Competition Authority's Approval To Acquire Maczfit

The president of the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection in Poland has approved the acquisition of Maczfit by the Żabka Group.

The transaction marks the next step in the implementation of Żabka's strategy of expanding modern convenience systems and integrating e-commerce solutions.

Maczfit

Maczfit, a dietary catering company, was established in 2015 by Maciej Lubiak, a sportsman, restaurateur, and entrepreneur.

The founder and minority shareholder will remain with the company as its chief executive officer.

The company currently distributes over 50,000 meals a day, or about 10 thousand subscriptions, in over 1,500 towns located throughout Poland.

It employs over 300 employees and qualified management staff and operates a modern production plant in Europe in central Poland, which is beneficial for continuing its dynamic development.

Żabka

Żabka Polska Sp. z o.o. is the owner of the largest chain of convenience stores in Poland, with over 7,000 branches run by over 5,600 franchisees under the Żabka brand.

Over the course of twenty years of operating in the Polish market, the retailer has gained a significant market share in the convenience segment.

More than 2.5 million customers visit the retailer's stores daily, and 12 million consumers live no more than 300 metres from the nearest Żabka outlet.

The decision to meet the requirements related to the antitrust law allows Żabka to finalise the agreement on the acquisition of 95% of shares in Maczfit from founder Maciej Lubiak and Resource Partners.

The request for consent to carry out the transaction was submitted on 22 March 2021, Żabka said.
