ICA Reports Sales Up 20% In Q1

Swedish supermarket giant ICA has reported strong growth in its first quarter of the year.

Sales at the grocery chain jumped 20 per cent to SEK23.7 billion - an increase of 8.7 per cent on an underlying basis.

Net profit jumped 11 per cent for the period; operating profit was up 8.3% on an underlying basis.

Speaking on the group's impressive performance, Per Strömberg, chief executive of ICA said: “The start of 2015 was stable with good growth in both sales and earnings in Sweden and the Baltic countries."

The group also closed a deal in Norway, allowing it to focus on the successful integration of Apotek Hjärtat into ICA, he added, which "strengthens this positive feeling".
