Kaufland Introduces K-Scan System In Bulgaria

Kaufland Bulgaria is introducing a new pilot project called K-Scan, which enables customers to scan their groceries while making their way around a store.

Scanning of the items is undertaken via a customer's mobile phone or a dedicated handheld scanner, before each item is placed in the cart. In order to check out, this amount is then transferred to the self-service checkout by scanning the QR code.

To use the app with a mobile phone, customers need to register using their Kaufland loyalty card, which is scanned at the store entrance. Alternatively, if the customer prefers to use a handheld scanner, these are located on-site in the stores.

Better Control

According to the retailer, the main advantages of the service are that it saves time when scanning the goods at the checkout and that it allows customers to have better control over their spending during the shopping process.

The project is already in place at two metropolitan hypermarkets (Banhora and Ovcha Kupel) and will be rolled out to other stores across the country, the retailer said.
