Mercadona Increases Avocado Purchasing By 33%

Mercadona Spain has increased its purchasing of avocados by 33%  during the period from December to May, the retailer has announced. The majority of avocados on sale in Mercadona's stores were supplied by Frutas Montosa, in Malaga.

The Spanish retailer invested €520 million in avocado purchasing in Malaga last year, around 2% more than the previous year, while in Granada, its purchasing grew 6% to reach a total of €160 million.

Mercadona has outlined plans to purchase products locally where possible for sale in its stores.
