Sales Increase For Dutch Jumbo Group In First Half Of 2016

Dutch retailer Jumbo Group has seen a sales increase of 13.4%over the first six months of 2016 and an 'organic growth' of 4%.

Its restaurant chain La Place achieved a sales growth of 11% in the same period. La Place has opened six new restaurants in the Netherlands and has re-opened two of its German locations this year, (re-)employing 1,500 people.

As part of a €125 million investment, Jumbo has so far renovated 30 of its stores. Some of the stores were extended to offer new ranges, such as fresh pizza and sushi. In addition, Jumbo has opened a 100 new 'Pick Up Points' and has widened its home delivery service.

CEO of Jumbo, Frits van Eerd, commented: "We are focusing on creating an even more customer-focused and effective organisation at Jumbo. Online grocery shopping is fully consistent with our omni-channel strategy. It includes the home delivery of groceries, both to consumers and to businesses. We aim to offer these activities in more and more places."

Jumbo Group is the second largest retailer in The Netherlands.
