Spar Austria’s Own-Brand Winery Wins Nine Industry Awards
Spar Austria’s private-label vineyard has been awarded nine gold medals in the Lower Austrian Wine Awards, the retailer announced Tuesday.
Winery Weingut Schloss Fels, which has land in the viticultural area of Wagram, in the Kremstal Valley, and in the wine-producing region of Kamptal, covers more than 100 hectares.
'Sensational Price-Benefit Ratio'
The winery, which is one of the largest in the country, has been in operation since 1986. It is managed by oenologist Klaus Klein.
Klein commented on the awards, "It is very gratifying that our endeavour to produce excellent wine at a sensational price-benefit ratio has now been recognised by the Lower Austrian Chamber of Agriculture with nine gold medals."
The Weingut Schloss Fels Grüner Veltliner 2017 vintage ‘convinced the jury with its unique, peppery aroma’, Spar Austria noted. Other winners included the Schloss Fels Riesling 2017, the Schloss Fels Chardonnay 2017, the Schloss Fels Cuvée Lieblich 2017, the Schloss Fels Selection Gewürztraminer Spätlese 2017, the Schloss Fels Selection Pinot Noir 2016, the Feinerebe Vario Grüner Veltliner 2017, the Feinerebe Vario Rivaner 2017, and the Castle Rock Blanc de Pinot Noir Brut.
Weingut Castle Fels was one of the first to be awarded the Sustainable Austria seal, managed by the Austrian Winemaking Association, for its range of sustainably produced vintages.
