Ferrero To Double Production Of Nutella Biscuits

Italian confectionery company Ferrero is planning to invest around €80 million to double the production output of its popular Nutella Biscuits SKU.

The project, to be implemented by October 2021, anticipates the expansion of the company’s Balvano plant in Italy's Basilicata region, which will see production rise from 16,000 tonnes to 32,000 tonnes per year, reports Il Sole 24 Ore.

The plant expansion project has already been approved by the Basilicata Regional Council.

Production Capacity

Balvano is one of Ferrero Group’s four productions sites in Italy, along with Alba, Pozzuolo Martesana and Sant'Angelo dei Lombardi.

At Balvano, a smart production area is equipped with 18 installed vision points, for enhanced product quality control and artificial intelligence applications, next to a large picking unit equipped with more than 40 mechanical arms, seven robots and 200 motors.

Ferrero also sees its Italian production plants as a laboratory for the development of new products.

Ferrero recently launched a campaign alongside Italy’s National Tourism Agency (ENIT), which features special edition Nutella jars featuring the 'Ti Amo Italia' logo, to promote the most beautiful places in Italy.
