Vion Food Group To Acquire Sausage Firm Otto Nocker

Dutch meat producer Vion Food Group is to take over meat and sausage specialist Otto Nocker, as well as six specialist meat retailers in Bavaria, Germany. The stores are located in the cities of Germaringen, Ingolstadt, Traunstein, Günzburg, Kulmbach, Blaichach, and Hammelburg.

Vion noted that the acquisition still needs to be cleared with the competent creditor committees and the antitrust authorities. Previously, Otto Nocker was part of the insolvent Lutz Fleischwaren group.

Growth Strategy

The acquisition of Nocker in Germaringen, Germany, underlines the growth strategy announced by Vion in 2016. The company plans to continue investing in expansion of the business, as well as the modernisation of various locations.

By purchasing seven stores, Vion Food Group aims to expand its presence in the Bavarian market and to ‘confirm its leading market position’. The company emphasised to be ‘focussed on strengthening the Nocker brand’ and announced to fully maintain previous business relationships ‘with the highest quality standard’.

“The announced takeover is in line with our ambition for the best market positions and strong regional brands,” said Francis Kint, chief executive of Vion.

In 2016, Vion Food Group realised an overall turnover of €4.7 billion.
