2 Sisters Food Group Backs IGD, Wrap's Food Waste Reduction Roadmap

2 Sisters Food Group has announced its support for IGD and Wrap’s Food Waste Reduction Roadmap, aimed at cutting down UK’s annual food waste bill.

The company will address issues related to food waste in operations, support suppliers with waste reduction measures, and engage with consumers to curb wastage.

Andrew Nicholson, sustainability manager, 2 Sisters Food Group, said, “Reducing food waste is vital to the health and longevity of the human race and the protection of our planets dwindling resources. It is not a choice but a prerequisite to the future of food manufacturing.”

Preventing Surplus

In addition to that, it will also adopt a ‘target, measure, act’ framework to achieve UK’s national policy objectives, and targets on food waste reduction.

The business will focus on preventing food surplus and waste generation. It also plans to redistribute surplus food as animal feed and implement high-value biomaterial processing.

The move is in line with UN’s sustainable development goal of slashing food waste across UK operations by 50% by 2030.

The food group will also publish its report on food waste by September 2019 to share its achievements and learnings from the exercise.
