2 Sisters Food Group To Close Three Poultry Plants
Poultry giant 2 Sisters Food Group has announced plans to close three of its production facilities across the UK, resulting the potential loss of 900 jobs.
Facilities at Cambuslang, in Scotland, in Smethwick and in Wolverhampton are said to be earmarked for closure, with the group currently undertaking a review of the operations at the three sites.
At the same time, the group said that it would be creating 1,000 new jobs within its poultry supply chain.
'Build A Better Business'
"As we continue to build a better business, we are simplifying how we work and investing in the areas that can make the most positive difference to our UK poultry operations," a 2 Sisters Food Group spokesperson said.
"This means that we will be creating up to 1,000 new roles within the poultry supply chain. However, we do have areas of significant challenge and regrettably 900 roles will be at risk at three loss-making sites which we propose to close."
The spokesperson added that the group's current focus is to "support all affected colleagues and explore all alternative options available to us before making any final decisions."
The producer has had a turbulent few months, with a TV investigation last October revealing alleged breaches of food safety at one of its facilities in the West Midlands.
More recently, 2 Sisters announced the divestment of the Goodfellas frozen pizza business to Nomad Foods, for around £200 million.
