Nestlé has announced that its Purina pet care brand is opening a new food factory in the US, located in Hartwell, Georgia, with an investment of CHF 310 million ($320 million) planned from now until 2023.

The site will be Purina’s 21st factory in the USA, providing 240 new jobs in the next five years. Distribution centre operations are expected to begin in 2018, followed by production in 2019.

As part of Nestlé's sustainability commitment, the factory will follow company's rules in terms of reducing greenhouses emissions, improving efficiency and using renewable energy.

Long-Term Expansion

Nestlé says that this development will strengthen Purina's presence in the south-east of the United States, expanding capacity and distribution. Leading brands include Purina ONE, Dog Chow, Friskies, Tidy Cats and Pro Plan.

The opening is also part of Nestlé's strategy to focus capital spending on promoting its coffee, pet-care, infant nutrition and bottled water categories.
