Albert Heijn, Jumbo Launch Google Assistant Apps

With the recent launch of a Dutch-speaking Google Assistant, retailers in the Netherlands have been racing to utilise the new virtual helper.

Albert Heijn and Bol.com, which are both subsidiaries of Ahold Delhaize, and supermarket chain Jumbo have created apps that use the voice-recognition feature of Google Assistant aimed at Dutch-speaking consumers.

Dutch shoppers can say "Talk to Bol.com" and ask for the daily offer or hear suggestions for gift ideas.

Shoppers can launch Jumbo’s messaging app by saying “Talk to Jumbo” to create shopping lists and hear suggestions based on items added to their lists.

“The speech option is appreciated by shoppers using the Jumbo app, with the most purchased items being mainly basic products such as milk, cheese, bread and eggs,” Roy van Keulen, director of marketing at Jumbo, said.

Albert Heijn’s app Appie can be opened via voice command and can be used to write shopping lists, suggest recipes and add ingredients based off those recipes to a user’s shopping list.
