Beaujolais Wine Sales Rise In UK Supermarkets

Sales of Beaujolais wine surged in UK supermarkets over 2016, according to figures from representative group Inter Beaujolais.

Exportations of the ten Beaujolais Crus to Britain were up 31.68% on a like-for-like basis, while Beaujolais-Villages AOC SKU exports increased by 12.75%. Both are typically available in large-scale retailers trading in the UK.

On-trade sales of the produce also improved, according to wine supplier Jascots.

Speaking to TheDrinksBusiness.com about the lift in Beaujolais wine sales, Doug Wregg of Les Caves de Pyrene said, “We’ve found that certain Beaujolais producers are attracting attention and this is driving sales of the more serious cru wines.”

“Customers are favouring wines which display vineyard character and are made in the Burgundian (as opposed to carbonic) method with longer élevage in barrels,” he added.
