Origin Green Initiative Promoted At Global Agriculture Forum In Abu Dhabi

Bord Bia chief executive Aidan Cotter has hailed the group's Origin Green initiative at the Global Forum for Innovations in Agriculture (GFIA) in Abu Dhabi.

The Origin Green programme was set up by Bord Bia, the Irish Food Board, to promote sustainable food production in Ireland, and has been chosen as one of three key topics to be discussed at the forum’s opening ceremony. Cotter addressed more than 300 delegates, including government officials, VIPs and agri-scientists.

As one of the world’s largest sustainable agriculture events, the GFIA attracts thousands of visitors and exhibitors from around the globe. Attendees are comprised of agri-scientists, inventors, growers, food suppliers and producers, NGOs, and key government officials.

Among the issues addressed at the forum are global food security, sustainable food production and climate change.

Bord Bia also has a stand at the event, where it promoted Origin Green and the Irish agri-food industry.

Some 95 per cent of Irish food and drink exporters have already signed up to the Origin Green initiative, and Bord Bia aims to reach 100 per cent by the end of 2016. At present, Bord Bia has conducted more than 100,000 carbon assessments on Irish farms, averaging 900 assessments per week.
