Nestlé Expands Frozen Pizza Production In Italy

Swiss food group Nestlé has invested €50 million to expand its Buitoni frozen pizza plant in city of Benevento, located in Southern Italy.

Nestlé Italia first announced its expansion plans at the Buitoni factory in December last year, with financial support from the Italian government and local authorities in Campania.

This week local politicians and representatives visited the facility to taste the first pizzas made on one of the refurbished production lines.

"We are proud of having invested more than €200 million in Italy over the last three years," said Leo Wencel, head of Nestlé Italia Group. "The Buitoni plant is an integral part of this plan."

Pizza Hub

Nestlé says that its aim is for this to become an 'international pizza hub', creating Italian produce for the export market.

By 2020, when the plant will be fully running, the facility is expected to hire an additional 150 employees across three production lines, which will manufacture 350 pizzas per minute.
