Conserve Italia Cuts Plastic In Fruit Juice Bottles By 20%

Italian food company Conserve Italia has announced that the plastic bottles of its Valfrutta, Yoga and Derby Blue juice SKUs now contain 20% less plastic.

The initiative will result in cutting down the use of PET by more than 600 tonnes per year.

According to the Conserve Italia Sustainability Report, the weight of one-litre bottles of its Yoga fruit juice will decrease by 22% in the coming years, cutting plastic usage by 500 tonnes.

To achieve this goal, Conserve Italia has teamed up with suppliers that are committed to reducing the environmental impact of packaging, making the containers lighter, or using fewer raw materials.

Impact On Other Products

The initiative will also have an impact on tinplate boxes, and glass jars used for peeled tomatoes, pulp, sauces, cocoa legumes and vegetables, and for Valfrutta vegetables, tomatoes, and fruit in syrup.

More than 99% of the primary packaging used by Conserve Italia is already completely recyclable, the company claims.

Additionally, the cartons and trays used for transporting the products are made from recycled paper.

According to the general manager of Conserve Italia, Pier Paolo Rosetti, all the company’s main references are currently undergoing a packaging transformation, “without compromising their function of preserving and guaranteeing the safety and integrity of the products.”
