Metro Group is to introduce a new nutrition labelling scheme on its entire private label range. The '1 plus 4' nutrition labels are backed by the German government, and contain information on calories, and fat, sugar and salt content. The new labelling scheme was introduced by the government last year.
"Our customers are increasingly asking for more information about food and its ingredients," said Metro Group chief executive Eckhard Cordes. "They want to know how much fat and sugar is contained in their products. We therefore decided to further develop the nutritional food labelling of all own brands."
Metro Group hopes that the new labelling scheme will provide "greater transparency" for customers. (21 Apr)
