Albert Heijn Launches Dedicated Vegan Food-To-Go Counter
Dutch-based supermarket chain Albert Heijn has announced the launch of an in-store counter solely dedicated to vegan food.
The retailer said that it intends to try out the new concept for the next four weeks and collect feedback from its customers. If successful, this concept will be extended to other Albert Heijn stores across the country.
The new concept is located in one of the Ahold Delhaize-owned retailer's flagship stores in Amsterdam, on Gelderlandplein. It will feature a wide range of vegan products, combined together, to make shopping the category easier. Customers will also be able to find 'grab and go' products such as vegan wraps, soups, salads and meals.
In various European countries, meat-free alternatives have been on the rise, with Tesco and Sainsbury's launching a new plant-based food range in the UK for example or Naturalia launching several dedicated vegan shops in France.
