Nestlé's Henniez Mineral Water Switches To 75% rPET Bottles

Nestlé Waters' mineral water brand Henniez has switched to water bottles made of 75% recycled PET plastic across its entire range.

The announcement was made three weeks after Nestlé pledged to invest up to CHF 2 billion in developing sustainable packaging solutions that reduce the use of virgin plastics.

Alessandro Rigoni, general manager of Nestlé Waters Switzerland, said, "With 75% recycled plastic in all our Henniez plastic bottles, we are clearly committed to this highly efficient circular economy."

PET Recycling Scheme

Rigoni also described Switzerland's local PET recycling scheme (PRS), which has been in place for 30 years, as "one of the best in the world".

The PRS scheme has a recycling rate of 82% without resorting to a bottle deposit scheme, the report said.

In due course, the Swiss mineral water company aims to introduce 100% locally recycled PET for water bottles.

The move will enable Henniez to close the PET circular loop by making new bottles out of discarded bottles multiple times.

In 2019, Nestlé's Belgian mineral water brand Valvert moved to 100% rPET, while France's Vittel introduced a bottle made entirely of recycled PET.

British brand Buxton also announced plans to introduce 100% rPET for its complete range by the end of 2021.
