British buying group and wholesaler, Today’s Group has introduced two new own brand ranges, the first launch of its kind since the group split with Nisa earlier this year. 40 products were launched on October 14 under three banners, Today’s Essentials, Today’s Select and Blue Stone.
Today’s Essentials is the group's entry level range made up of household items such as bleach and washing-up liquid. Its Today’s Select label is a higher-quality range offering an alternative to A-brands at a lower price. This food-based range includes biscuits, canned food and soft drinks. The group is also to introduce private label spring water under the Blue Stone label.
There are plans to extend the private label portfolio in February, reaching an estimated 200 lines during 2013. 80 per cent of the products will come under the Select banner.
Bill Laird, Today’s Group managing director said, “In the current challenging economic climate consumers are increasingly looking to economise in all areas of food shopping, and this has meant an increase in the amount of own-label products they are buying from supermarkets and local convenience stores. Price-conscious consumers have become accustomed to buying own-label products and the new Today’s Select range will enable retailers to grab a slice of this lucrative market, which provides them with great margins."
