Brazil's CBD Partners With Cheftime On Gastronomic Kits

Brazilian retailer Companhia Brasileira de Distribuição (CBD) has entered into a strategic alliance with Cheftime to offer an online subscription service, through which it will offer a range of meal kits for sale.

The agreement gives CBD the right to acquire a controlling interest in the foodtech startup within 18 months, which can be extended to up to 24 months.

The financial arrangements of the deal were not revealed.

Cheftime will continue to be managed by its founder, Daniella Mello, who will work alongside CBD on the development of the platform.

Meal Kits

As part of a pilot project, CBD has commenced marketing an exclusive line of meal kits called Cheftime by Pão de Açúcar.

They include recipes created by professional chefs, containing fresh and selected ingredients and detailed step-by-step instructions for the preparing of dishes at home.

The exclusive recipes also include at least one ingredient from CBD's private-label brands Qualitá, Taeq and Casino.

Cheftime by Pão de Açúcar kits are initially available at the Pão de Açúcar store on Teodoro Sampaio street in São Paulo, and via the retailer’s regional online store.

The kits will be rolled out to other Pão de Açúcar and Minuto Pão de Açúcar stores in the first quarter of 2019.
