Portuguese Retailer Continente Expands Private-Label Offering

  • Portuguese retail chain Continente has expanded its private-label offering to include a range of healthy snacks and environmentally friendly cleaning products.

    The company has added Bolas Energeticas (Energy Balls) healthy snacks in five different flavours to its Continente Equilíbrio range.

    The flavours include peanut and banana; peanut and coconut; lemon and chia; hazelnut and cocoa; and coconut and almond.

    The product is available in packages of two and priced at €0.99.

    The gluten-free snack is rich in fibre and proteins and contains less sugar, salt and fats.

    It is also free from hydrogenated fats, palm oil, sweeteners, colours and artificial flavours.

    The packaging features a colour-coded nutritional information guide, indicating the concentration of fat, saturated fat, sugar and salt.

    It has also earned the distinctive Continente FoodLab seal, a pioneering concept in Portugal that promotes emerging food trends by inviting customers to try exclusive products available on an experimental and rotational basis.

    Cleaning Products

    Elsewhere, the retailer has rolled out a new private-label brand of environmentally friendly cleaning products for home and laundry.

    The Continente Eco range comprises over 15 products, including paper kitchen rolls, napkins and toilet paper; garbage bags in various capacities; detergents and grease removers for the kitchen; and laundry detergent.

    It also offers toilet gel, all-purpose cleaners, cleaning cream and glass cleaners.

    All products in the range are made with sustainable raw materials that are biodegradable, and sold in packaging made of recycled and recyclable materials.

    The retailer will forward a part of the amount from the sales of Continente Eco to the Portuguese Firefighters League for its work in protecting citizens, preserving forests, and fighting fires.
