Italian retailer Esselunga has announced the opening of its first supermarket in Albenga, in the Cime di Leca region of Italy.

The supermarket, which sits on a renovated pre-existing structure, has a sales area of 1,300 square meters and is equipped with a large car park with over 100 parking spaces, partly covered, with four stations for recharging electric cars.

Approximately 130 employees work in the new store. This comprises almost 100 new hires, most of whom are from the Albenga area with all trained at the Esselunga school of trades.

Private-Label Assortment

The new store offers more than 8,500 SKUs, with a focus on convenience and private-label lines. It also has fruit and vegetable stalls with more than 500 selected products and the Esselunga Bio range.

The gastronomy department offers a selection of the cheese, cured meats and Italian specialties along with the 'Cucina Esselunga range', which includes a range of traditional dishes, vegetarian items and recipes from around the world.

In an assisted counter, there is a fishmonger offering fresh fish from areas dedicated to fishing and aquaculture, as well as 40 varieties of sushi prepared according to the Japanese tradition.

The in-house bakery features more than 18 varieties of fresh bread, with pizzas and focaccias that are baked during the day using natural ingredients and selected flours.

Esselunga says the offer is enriched by Elisenda , the high-end pastry line created in collaboration with the Michelin-starred restaurant, 'Da Vittorio', of the Cerea brothers.
