Waitrose Sales Boosted By Warm Weather, Bank Holiday

UK retailer Waitrose has announced that sales were up by 4% last week compared to the same period last year.

The retailer attributes this growth to the warm weather before the bank holiday weekend, which prompted 'sunshine-led trends across shops and online'.

Summer Trends

Top performing products included fruit, which experienced an increase in sales of 9%, and beers, wines and spirits, which were up by 16%.

In particular, sales of strawberries grew by 34%, Italian spirit Aperol saw sales rise by 70%, and rose wine was up 54%.

Other summery foods that saw an increase last week included barbecue meats (+34%), deli foods (+13%), ice cream (+14%), and food to go products (+14%).
