Sainsbury's Extends Vinyl Collection Into 67 More UK Stores

UK retailer Sainsbury's is further extending its vinyl record collection into 67 more stores, following the success of introducing vinyl sales in-store earlier this year.

Some 60 titles are now available to buy across 238 stores. Exclusive editions from Madonna, Michael Bublé and Jethro Tull will feature in the new collection along with new items including Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here and David Bowie’s album Blackstar.

Sainsbury’s vinyl sales now account for 80% of the total grocery vinyl market.

The UK retailer began introducing vinyl in stores last March for the first time since the 1980s, and has sold over 81,000 records to date, the best-selling of these being Fleetwood Mac album Rumours, selling 5,500 units.

Sean Cowland, Sainsbury’s Music Buyer said: “Following on from the unprecedented success we’ve seen since adding vinyl to our offer in March, we’ve extended the range to give our customers even more choice.

"We’ve seen incredible sales from timeless classics such as The Beatles, Pink Floyd, and Fleetwood Mac, but also a more leftfield selection, like N.WA and The Smiths.  By increasing the range, we can offer our customer a larger choice to enjoy in our stores.”
