Walmart.com Hiring Hundreds Of Employees To Take On Amazon Prime

Walmart.com is hiring swathes of tech workers in San Bruno and Sunnyvale in California, US in order to challenge the reigning leader of the e-commerce delivery realm, Amazon Prime, according to local daily Mercury News.

In order to successfully implement its two-day delivery scheme (available on orders of $35 or more), it will be hiring hundreds of "merchandise and category specialists".

“We are shifting our investments and building up teams that can launch two-day shipping and other customer-facing initiatives that further enhance the digital shopping experience,” spokesperson Ravi Jariwala said.

This move will offset the previous dismissal of roughly 175 Walmart.com employees in the area - it currently has a workforce of about 2,300 people in the Bay Area.

Wal-Mart recently acquired e-commerce firms Jet.com, Shoebuy and outdoor online apparel retailer Moosejaw in a series of deals made between September 2016 and February of 2017.

Walmart.com is also trying to boost its online presence by promoting the free pickup of groceries bought on the website.
