X5 Retail Group Opens 11,500th Store In Russia
Russian retailer X5 Retail Group has announced the opening of its 11,500th store, a Karusel hypermarket located in the city of Samara.
With an area of over 4,000 square metres, the new Karusel has a modern lighting system, a compact shelving system and a layout that makes every department visible from anywhere in the store, the retailer says.
It offers around 19,000 SKUs, more than half of which are for food products. Around 50 local producers supply around 900 SKUs to the store. There is also a bakery, which offers fresh bread and pizza. The store’s cooks also take customised orders, in addition to the menu items on display.
The store has 18 checkouts and four self-checkout units. There is also a café located in the shopping area.
According to X5, the new hypermarket has created more than 140 jobs for the local community, is the fifth in Samara and the sixth in the Samara region. Only three months ago, the chain announced its last milestone of its 11,000th store in Russia.
The company has also recently expanded into the Siberian region with the opening of five stores in October.
At the beginning of the month, the company opened its first trade representative office abroad in Hong Kong, aiming to boost direct imports, primarily for fruit, vegetables, seafood and non-food goods.
The company also said it is considering establishing similar trade offices in Central Asia and South America.
X5’s third quarter of 2017 saw sales increases of 24.9% tolling at over RUB 317 billion.
